Jack Hanna and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Honored


Columbus,OH Focused on providing leadership,communication, and problem solving skills to Appalachian youth and young adultsso they become successful future leaders in their schools, and mostimportantly, their communities, the iBELIEVE Foundation brought together 270people at a benefit dinner on March 15. Held at the Ohio Stadium, the eventraised funds to support students in leadership activities and honored JackHanna and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams as the year’s iLEAD and iGIVE honorees,respectively.

“Oursecond annual dinner exceeded our expectations,” said Patrick Klein, Directorof the iBELIEVE Foundation. “We were honored by how many supporters joined usand are excited by what this means for Appalachian Ohio students.”

Proceeds from this event willsupport the iBELIEVE Foundation in sending Appalachian Ohio students to theOhio Association of Student Councils’ (OASC) 5-day, 4-night student leadershipcamp. Participating in this camp enables students to gain the necessary softskills and leadership training critical to current and future success.

Committedto celebrating Appalachian Ohio and the possibility of its students, theiBELIEVE Foundation also honored the year’s iGIVE and iLEAD awardees. JackHanna, who brought along some of his animal friends, received the iLEADLifetime Award in celebration of hiscommitment to the Appalachian region through his involvement with The Wilds,one of the largest and most innovative wildlife conservation centers in theworld. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, which gave guests a sweet treat for dessert,received the inaugural iGIVE Corporate Award for their commitment to Appalachianfarms and agriculture.

Hosted by Colleen Marshall ofNBC4, the evening was made possible through the sponsorship of manyorganizations who believe in the power of investing in the region’s youth. The iBELIEVE Foundation begansupporting students in attending the OASC’s summer leadership camp in 2011 and hassince sent over 140 students to camp. This year’s benefit dinner supports the iBELIEVEin Student Leadership Fund, which is housed at the Foundation for AppalachianOhio and will make it possible for even more students to participate in this emboldeningexperience. Participating students gain a strong foundation of core leadershipskills to implement in their schools, promoting and encouraging success andpost-secondary pursuits.

Contributionsto the iBELIEVE in Student Leadership Fund can be made in a variety of ways,including: outright gifts of cash or long-term appreciated securities; memorialgifts of cash or assets in memory or in honor of someone special; and deferredgifts through bequests, life insurance, and charitable remainder trusts and arefully tax-deductible.
