New Scholarship Fund Will Support Students at Miller High School

Corning, OH – The Corning Alumni Association has celebrated its last event, but its members have found a way for the Corning Alumni Association to live on. The creation of the Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) was a perfect way to cement the legacy of the Association. This new scholarship fund will support graduates of Miller High School as they pursue a wide-range of post-secondary education opportunities including accredited training and certificate programs, associate degree programs, and four-year degrees.

“The creation of the Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund will allow the Association’s name to live on while supporting future generations of Miller High School students. Contributing to the scholarship fund was the right thing to do. It is important to provide an opportunity to help some students gain a higher education,” said David Hartley, member of the Corning Alumni Association. “By working with FAO, we will be able to grow the Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund to become a permanent legacy of the organization’s work over the years.”

The Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund will be part of the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund’s (SPCAEF) Family of Funds. Established in 1987, the SPCAEF provides resources to promote academic experiences for residents of the Southern Local School district. Composed of 22 donor-established funds, including the new Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, SPCAEF partners with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to provide scholarships as well as community mini-grants to promote academic excellence and enrichment opportunities for Southern Local School District residents. In 2017, SPCAEF hit a major milestone as it crossed over $1 million in permanent endowment to benefit students and citizens in the Southern Local School District.

The goal is to grow the new Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund to over $10,000. The initial donation amounted to $5,018.35. Gifts to the Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and can be made in many ways, including cash, bequests, and life insurance. Donations can be made online at www.AppalachianOhio.org by designating the Corning Alumni Association Scholarship Fund when donating.
