Grant Will Support Monroe County’s Youngest Readers
Sardis, OH – Rapidly advancing technology means that even our youngest citizens – and readers – need to be able to keep up. Staff members at the Dally Memorial Library know this, which is why they applied for a grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation (MCCF). Thanks to a $500 grant from MCCF, the Dally Memorial Library will purchase an iPad to encourage the next generation of readers.
“Reading is a foundational skill that impacts a child for the rest of their lives – this grant to the Dally Memorial Library will help ensure that children in Monroe County and beyond have a strong foundation in reading,” said Ryan Moyer, a committee member with the Monroe County Community Foundation. “We created MCCF to support Monroe County by growing resources and investing them in good projects and ideas across the county. We look forward to making more grants like these in the future thanks to the generosity of people who hold Monroe County close to their hearts.”
The grant to the Dally Memorial Library’s Children’s Read-Along program will be used to purchase an iPad to help the library keep up with technology while encouraging the next generation of readers. The iPad will enable library staff and patrons to use read-along programs to help children learn to read as well as support the weekly story hour and summer reading program.
“We are tremendously excited for what the purchase of this iPad will make possible for our patrons of all ages, especially our youngest ones,” said Tammy Ellis, director of the Dally Memorial Library. “This iPad will enable parents and preschool children to have access to a variety of resources to develop their independent reading skills. It will also allow library staff to take books to outside events or into nursing homes in communities, allowing more people to check out books from the iPad. We cannot adequately express our gratitude to the Monroe County Community Foundation for what this grant will allow us to do moving forward.”
