Chevron Partners with the Foundation to Invest in Appalachian Ohio

chevron_HE_V_RGBNelsonville, OH Chevron announced today a $64,000 donation to the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) in support of their mission to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities.

“The support Chevron is providing will be used to create opportunities for our citizens today and across future generations,” said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO’s president and CEO. “We could not be more appreciative of their partnership in our work.”

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio was created to help the Appalachian Ohio region grow the philanthropic resources available to its communities and nonprofits. With fewer philanthropic assets in Appalachian Ohio than any other areas of the state, the region’s communities did not have the same ability to address challenges and pursue new opportunities. These philanthropic funds offer a flexible way for communities and nonprofits to make a difference for citizens.

Chevron, which holds regional offices in Moon Township and Smithfield, PA, is one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies and a leading producer of natural gas from shale in the Appalachian Basin. Known for their support of STEM education, workforce development and healthcare, people and partnerships have always been at the heart of Chevron’s work.

“Chevron is committed to improving the social and economic well-being of the communities in which we operate,” said Nigel Hearne, Vice President of Chevron’s Appalachian/Michigan Business Unit. “We are pleased to find a partner in the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio whose mission is focused on the long-term well-being of these Appalachian communities.”

In partnership with FAO, eight counties that were without local philanthropy in years past are now growing the funds they’ve needed for community development through investments like Chevron’s to FAO. With Chevron’s gift, FAO will have the opportunity to help more communities grow while supporting the wider Appalachian Ohio region in closing the philanthropy gap.
