Every School District in Guernsey County

Now Has Access to Philanthropy

With the creation of a new fund to support the East Guernsey Local School District, every school district in Guernsey County will now have support from a philanthropic fund. These funds not only give teachers and students a new source of support, they offer citizens interested in supporting education a new way to give.

The Friends of East Guernsey Education Fund was created to support the academic and cultural opportunities for students and teachers of the East Guernsey Local School District not otherwise available. A part of the Guernsey County Foundation Family of Funds, the educational fund will provide grant support to educators in East Guernsey so they can provide their students with new projects, lessons, and experiences.

“This Fund will support our commitment to and passion for East Guernsey’s students and teachers,” said Cindy Bond and Amy Patterson, representatives of the new Friends of East Guernsey Education Fund. “Our goal is for this fund to provide support to teachers to explore creative ways of engaging students.”

The Guernsey County Foundation Family of Funds was established at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to improve the quality of life in Guernsey County both now and for generations to come. With the creation of the Friends of East Guernsey Education Fund, the Guernsey County Foundation’s Family of Funds now comprises 32 funds benefitting Guernsey County, totaling over $4 million.

“There is no better way to invest in Guernsey County than to invest in our students’ education,” said David Caldwell, trustee of the Guernsey County Foundation. “With funds representing all of Guernsey’s school districts, it is now much easier for anyone wanting to support teachers and students to do so.”

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, where the Guernsey County Foundation Family of Funds is managed, sees Guernsey as an example of what philanthropy can do to support a county, its schools, and its citizens.

“The opening of the Friends of East Guernsey Education Fund marks a significant milestone for Guernsey County,” said FAO President and CEO Cara Dingus Brook. “To see the Guernsey County Foundation grow and support every school district in their county has been an inspiration to FAO. We believe Guernsey is an excellent model for counties and school districts across our region.”
