2025 scholarship application
Applications are being accepting Monday, Jan. 13, through Friday, Feb. 14.
This scholarship is included in FAO’s general scholarship application, allowing applicants to apply for nearly 30 scholarship opportunities through one easy-to-access application.
FAO has transitioned to a new online system, Foundation Cloud Community Portal, for funding applications, including scholarships. Before applying for a scholarship, all applicants must register and create an account in the new system. Once registered, click on the “Scholarship Application” tab and then select “Available Scholarships,” where you can access the specific scholarship application form.

Ora Eaton Anderson
This scholarship honors Ora Eaton Anderson's lifelong contributions toward the conservation and protection of Appalachian Ohio’s natural environment. Throughout his life, Anderson leveraged the perspective and passion he gained as a young reporter, documenting the development of the region’s forests to create educational environmental experiences for others.
Through poems, essays, wood carvings and a variety of civic contributions, Anderson led unprecedented collaborations and inspired people from all walks of life to appreciate and care for Appalachian Ohio's landscape. Over his lifetime, he planted tens of thousands of trees, promoted conservation education and pursued his love of nature and the arts as an essayist, artist and advocate.
Eligibility Requirements and Criteria
- Be a graduating high school senior or possess a GED diploma
- Currently live and attend school in one of the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio
- Plan to pursue postsecondary studies associated with the natural sciences, including forest and wildlife management, environmental restoration, natural and historical interpretation, ecotourism and/or related-disciplines associated with protecting plants, animals and the environment
- Overall commitment to environmental protection and conservation will be considered; ethical character, extracurricular activities, volunteerism and financial need will also be evaluated
- Overall academic performance will be considered, but the individual’s commitment, interest and desire to pursue a career in environmental sciences and/or conservation will be carefully considered
One male and one female student will receive scholarships. Recipients must show proof of enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year higher education institution.
Application Period
Applications will be accepted annually in January and February.
