James and Martha Thomas

This scholarship honors the lives and legacies of James and Martha Thomas.

James was a former educator who began his teaching career in a one-room school called Bloomingrove, located on State Route 513 between Middlebourne and Antrim. He later taught at Londonderry Elementary, Oxford Elementary, Old Washington Elementary and Quaker City Elementary. His teaching and administrative career lasted 40 years.

This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Buckeye Trail High School seeking a teaching career.

Eligibility Requirements and Criteria
  • Be a graduating senior at Buckeye Trail High School in Guernsey County
  • Be attending an accredited two- or four-year postsecondary institution; priority will be given to students pursing a bachelor’s degree in education, with the goal of a career in teaching
  • Have at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Demonstrate reliability, positive attitude, integrity, honesty, responsibility, respect, persistence, independence, enterprise and involvement with extracurricular activities or work experience
  • Financial need may be considered

Application Period

Scholarship applications are accepted annually in January and February.
