Monroe County Tourism Guild Receives Grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation

Grant Will Support the Scenic Routes Marketing Project

Woodsfield, OH – With its rolling green hills, access to the Ohio River, and distinctive places to visit, there is a reason Monroe County is called the “Switzerland of Ohio”. A recent $150 grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation (MCCF) to the Monroe County Tourism Guild will support the Tourism Guild’s work to develop a Scenic Routes Tour to promote driving routes for visitors to Monroe County.

“As residents of Monroe County, we know everything our community has to offer and are excited to support the Scenic Routes Tour project to share our county with visitors from all over,” said Karena Reusser, a committee member with the Monroe County Community Foundation. “We created MCCF to support and draw attention to our local community by growing resources and investing them in good projects and ideas across the county. We look forward to making more grants like these in the future thanks to the generosity of people who hold Monroe County close to their hearts.”

The grant to the Monroe County Tourism Guild for the Scenic Routes Marketing project will support the Tourism Guild’s work to develop a Scenic Routes Tour to promote to motorcycle and car clubs, and other tourism-related entities. The Tours will offer set routes with miles of challenges for driving or biking in the Switzerland of Ohio, and feature key stopping points like restaurants, parks, and historic sites. Printed materials will be created to drive readers to a new Monroe County website with digital maps and expanded online resources for tourists.

“Monroe County residents know how beautiful the scenery in our county is, from the Wayne National Forest, to the Ohio River, to historic quilt barns and covered bridges,” shared Marlene Moose, president of the Monroe Arts Council. “This grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation will allow us to share this scenery and other points of interest with drivers and bicyclists who visit our county, spreading the word not only throughout the state, but throughout the country.”

The Monroe County Community Foundation was created in 2014 to provide a place for Monroe County citizens to have a place to come together and grow a powerful asset for the county and its residents for many future generations. A member of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s (FAO) Growing Home family, the Monroe County Community Foundation works with FAO to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities, like those in Monroe County, by inspiring and supporting philanthropy.
