About the fund
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) was established in 1933 in response to the devastating floods that ravaged eastern Ohio for years. Its mission has grown over the years to include recreation and conservation.
In 2023, while celebrating the district’s 90th anniversary and finalizing its five-year strategic plan, the MWCD board also planted seeds for the future, investing $5 million to create the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Fund for Environmental Stewardship, which is managed by FAO. The fund is advancing MWCD’s and FAO’s commitment to enhancing conservation efforts throughout the region.
For more information about the MWCD, visit www.mwcd.org.
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Fund for Environmental Stewardship’s funding priorities include, but are not limited to, conservation, enhancement of water quality, recreation, environmental education, land and park accessibility, and research and development. Funding is available within the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio and seven additional counties (Ashland, Knox, Licking, Richland, Summit, Stark and Wayne counties) served by MWCD.
