About Athens Food Rescue
One in six people are hungry in the United States, while 40% of our food is wasted. Athens Food Rescue was formed to help eliminate this problem.
Athens Food Rescue is an all-volunteer group that aims to bridge a gap in our food system by increasing food waste diversion. They do this by collecting leftover food from donors and immediately transporting it to their associated non-profit organizations.
Athens Food Rescue works hard to address food insecurity in Athens County and the surrounding communities. To further its work, Athens Food Rescue has partnered with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to create the Athens Food Rescue Fund in an effort to grow the dollars that fuel their mission and to help sustain their work.
