About Athens Conservacy
Athens Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust that exists to protect special spaces and wild places for people to explore and enjoy, maintain healthy ecosystems, preserve water quality, protect biodiversity and nurture natural habitats. The Conservancy’s lands in Athens County and surrounding areas are mostly forested and include ridge tops, stream bottoms, dramatic rock formations and beautiful vistas.
Athens Conservancy is led by a passionate and focused volunteer board of directors. The Conservancy was established in 2002 to realize the vision of creating a nonprofit land trust focusing on Athens County.

When you make a donation to Athens Conservancy, 100 percent of your dollars stay local. You are making an investment to protect the beautiful lands of southeastern Ohio, nurturing the forests and hills in Athens County and surrounding areas – and protecting the land for generations to come.
The Conservancy has two general funds housed at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio:
- The Athens Conservancy Endowment Fund, a restricted fund that continues to grow in an investment portfolio.
- The Athens Conservancy Fund, with monies immediately available for use to support the organization’s mission.
There are many ways you can help support Athens Conservancy’s mission and invest in one of our most important natural resources – the land around us. Options include donating land, setting up a conservation easement, making a gift from your IRA, creating a legacy gift and supporting the Athens Conservancy Fund and the Athens Conservancy Endowment Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio.

Support the Athens Conservancy Endowment Fund
Gifts to the Athens Conservancy Endowment Fund are tax-deductible and can be made in many ways, including cash, bequests, stock, real estate, royalties, insurance beneficiaries and qualified charitable distributions from IRAs.
To mail your donation, please designate the fund and mail to the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, 35 Public Square, Nelsonville, OH 45764.
Donations can be made online by designating the Athens Conservancy Endowment Fund when donating.
