Foundation for Appalachian Ohio Celebrates 2013 Child of Appalachia Honoree

Approximately 160 Gathered to Celebrate Honoree Greg Adams

Nelsonville, OH – On December 6, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s annual Child of Appalachia Celebration recognized Greg Adams as the 2013 Child of Appalachia Honoree. The Foundation’s Child of Appalachia award annually honors an outstanding citizen of Appalachian Ohio, for the difference he or she has made in the lives of others.

“Appalachian Ohio is fortunate to call Greg one of its own,” said FAO President and CEO Cara Dingus Brook. “The region benefits from his commitment and dedication every day. He is a true embodiment of the Foundation’s mission to create opportunities.”

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s mission is to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities by inspiring and supporting philanthropy. Once a year, the Foundation gathers with supporters from across the region to recognize an honoree who lives this mission.

Approximately 160 friends of Appalachian Ohio joined for the awards celebration, which in the past has recognized Appalachian Ohio citizens such as Ora E. Anderson, Mike Brooks, Bob Evans, Senator John and Mrs. Annie Glenn, Leona Hughes, Bill Morgan, Ambassador John and Mrs. Mary Lee Ong, David Scholl, Governor Ted and Mrs. Frances Strickland, Wayne White, David Wilhelm, and Nancy Zimpher.

“To join the ranks of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s Child of Appalachia honorees is truly an honor,” said Greg Adams. “Appalachian Ohio has given me so many opportunities. I grew up here, raised my family here, and launched a business here. I feel that it’s important to work to give back to my community and to the region that has given me so much.”

A New Concord native, Greg has spent his life serving his community and family. Greg’s commitment to his community has been an inspiration to those who are close to him. As a full-time volunteer director for the Ohio Appalachian Business Council, Greg Adams supported the Foundation in leading the incubation of the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth, a regional economic development organization. A successful entrepreneur, Greg launched and built Resource Systems, which was recently acquired by Cerner, with his business partner Larry Triplett. In addition to service on a variety of boards, church, and civic groups, Greg is the CEO of TDPI Ventures and has served as the Mayor of New Concord since 1986.

This year’s celebration at Muskingum University also featured the unveiling of the Foundation’s new logo and the rollout of the Regional Opportunity Scorecard – a data tool designed to help organizations across the region work together to track progress in growing more opportunity for the region’s citizens. The Scorecard was developed through a grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation with additional support from the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth, Columbia Gas, Dominion Energy, Ohio CAT, and Rocky Brands.
