Three Local Projects Receive Grant Funds

Corning, OH – The Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund (SPCAEF) is pleased to announce three grant awards to benefit residents of the Southern Local School District. These grants will support the preservation of Perry County history and provide opportunities for youth during the summer.

“We are so excited to support projects that will preserve the unique history of our Perry County community for new generations,” said Lynann Bolyard, a SPCAEF committee member. “These annual grant awards bring local projects to fruition and extend new opportunities to residents in southern Perry County.”

SPCAEF was created in in 1987 to create resources to promote academic experiences for residents of the Southern Local School district. A member of the Community Foundation for Perry County’s Family of Funds, SPCAEF partners with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to provide scholarships as well as community mini-grants to promote academic excellence and enrichment opportunities for Southern Local School District residents.

The 2016 community grant recipients include:

Little Cities of Black Diamonds (LCOBD) received a $585 grant provided by the Bob and Ruth Holland Community Fund of the SPCAEF. This grant will support the digital sharing and archiving of LCOBD information for current residents and future generations to learn about the areas distinctive history and heritage.

The New Straitsville History Group was awarded a $450 grant from the Hazel Post Fisher Community Fund and SPCAEF. This grant will support the digital sharing and archiving of historical documents while labeling the documents.

Sunday Creek Associates received over $900 in grant dollars from the Blake and Underwood Community Fund and SPCAEF. This grant will support instructor stipends and program supplies for Sunday Creek Associates’ summer youth workshops.
