With matching funds, investment pushes endowment past the $1 million mark

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio – The Perry County Commissioners have committed $188,000 to support the work of the Community Foundation for Perry County (CFPC) and advance opportunities for the county’s residents and communities.

Funding from the county is being matched dollar-for-dollar through a partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), resulting in $376,000 being invested in Perry County and pushing CFPC’s endowment past the $1 million threshold.

“This is a long-awaited milestone for our foundation and for the countless individuals who have poured their hearts and hard work into growing philanthropic resources that open doors to opportunities and help meet the needs of our communities today and in the future,” said Tony Fiore, CFPC president. “On behalf of the residents of Perry County who will benefit from this support for generations to come, we thank our county commissioners for their generosity and for partnering with us to enrich the quality of life in all our communities. While we have met a fundraising goal, our work to build philanthropic resources continues. We have a unique but time-limited opportunity to match gifts made to CFPC dollar-for-dollar, thanks to a partnership with FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund.”

Established 10 years ago by past and present residents of Perry County, CFPC is dedicated to creating sustained transformations and positive change for the residents of Perry County, now and into the future, through the development of permanent funds and resources. It is one of 15 foundation affiliates at FAO, a regional community foundation serving the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

CFPC provides grants annually to projects and programs in Perry County that align with five areas essential to improving the quality of life: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. This year, CFPC was able to award 12 grants, totaling more than $30,000.

In 2016, CFPC launched its Endow 200 campaign to grow its endowment to $1 million and extend the amount of annual grantmaking from $5,000 to $50,000. The recent investment from the Perry County Commissioners has driven that campaign over the goal line.

“To see the Community Foundation for Perry County meet its bold goal is a testament to the love and commitment of so many residents and leaders and reaffirms what the communities and counties of our region can achieve when we work together,” said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO president and CEO.
