Charter’s Gift Reaches Nonprofit Projects and Organizations Across 32 Counties
Nelsonville, OH – Charter Communications, Inc. (Charter) partnered with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) in a new way to invest in the work of nonprofits and communities across Ohio’s 32 Appalachian counties. With a $50,000 gift to FAO’s new Cause Connector platform, Charter supported the work of many nonprofits while also lifting up a new way for anyone to give and make a difference.
Cause Connector is a new online giving site designed to connect people who want to make a difference with local, nonprofit projects working in Appalachian Ohio. This platform was developed by FAO to help donors find projects they’d like to give to that are ready to launch now. When the first round of projects featured on Cause Connector closed last month, 88 projects from nonprofit organizations were funded, receiving crucial support to move their efforts forward.
“Charter is honored to partner with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to help build a stronger, more prosperous Appalachian region,” shared Charter’s Regional Senior Director of Government Affairs, Connie Luck. “At a time when so many have been adversely impacted by the pandemic, FAO’s Cause Connector has created a whole new way to support nonprofits doing life-changing work to help Ohioans in need.”
On Cause Connector, donors easily search for projects serving local communities across the areas of arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Donors can also narrow their search to sort projects by pillar and county. The inaugural launch of the giving platform gave hundreds of donors’ gifts the opportunity to combine to make a real difference on CauseConnector.org.
“Cause Connector is a new and unique way to connect investment-ready projects with donors who want to make an impact,” said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO’s president and CEO. “Charter’s investment in the projects featured on Cause Connector will make a tremendous and immediate difference in the work of the nonprofits and leaders in our communities.”
Appalachian Ohio has access to fewer grant and scholarship dollars per capita than the rest of the state. This “philanthropy gap” means the region’s students, nonprofits, schools, and community organizations have less support to continue education, meet pressing needs, and pursue opportunities that can make a difference.
Cause Connector was built with the philanthropy gap in mind so that donors can help fund projects that need their support in the region right now while also building resources for future projects. A second round of projects from Appalachian Ohio’s nonprofits, schools, and community organizations will be featured on CauseConnector.org later this year.
“Charter shares FAO’s goal of advancing opportunity, and this new partnership, along with Charter’s recently-announced plans to expand gigabit high-speed broadband to approximately 80,000 unserved homes and small businesses in Appalachian Ohio, will benefit the region for many years to come,” added Luck.
“As Charter works to increase connectivity within our region, we are grateful Charter is also investing to help us use our new connectivity to advance a far greater quality of life,” said Brook. “It’s a visionary investment, and we are so appreciative.”
