Press Release Provided by the Ohio Treasurer’s Office

COLUMBUS – Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague today announced two project proposals deemed “Pay for Success Appropriate and Ready” through the ResultsOHIO program. The projects received ResultsOHIO Feasibility Reports based on a screening process.

“ResultsOHIO draws on bold new ideas in the private sector to help solve significant and persistent problems in the public sector,” said Treasurer Sprague. “For many of our state’s challenges, a pay for success approach can provide a path for innovative strategies to make a real impact on the lives of Ohioans. We wish these two organizations the best as they work to get their projects off the ground.”

The two projects deemed “Pay for Success Appropriate and Ready” are:

  • Foundation for Appalachian Ohio: With the goal of increasing vision services to students at Title I schools in Appalachian Ohio, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio seeks to partner with Vision to Learn and the Ohio Optometric Foundation’s iSee program to launch a mobile vision clinic. The clinic will travel to high-need areas across the 32-county region to increase vision services for students and remove barriers to receiving eye exams.
  • Rural Action: The project seeks to reduce phosphorus loading in high-impact areas in the Western Lake Erie Basin Watershed by restoring wetlands and stream channels through best management practices.

These applicants went through the first round of evaluations and were deemed “Pay for Success Appropriate, but Not Ready.” The organizations were then eligible to revise and resubmit an application for additional evaluation.

Based on the resubmissions, the projects are now determined to be “Pay for Success Appropriate and Ready,” which serves as a “seal of approval” for a project, validating its ability to be launched under a pay for success framework should the project earn the support of policymakers. Both projects have been issued a Feasibility Report from ResultsOHIO that they will be able to use to advocate for results-based funding from the Ohio General Assembly.

ResultsOHIO is a program within the Treasurer’s office that enables policymakers and innovators to pursue pay for success projects aimed at tackling the most pressing social and public health challenges facing Ohio. The program’s infrastructure assesses prospective pay for success projects and shepherds their eventual launch and implementation. ResultsOHIO protects taxpayer dollars by focusing on bold, new results-based ideas. Public dollars will be used to reimburse project costs if it is proven to deliver real results at its conclusion.
