Ten Harrison County Organizations Receive Grant Awards

Cadiz, OH – The Harrison County Community Foundation at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) has announced $10,000 in grant awards through a partnership with FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund. These grant awards support Harrison County organizations amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“The COVID-19 crisis has created new needs in Harrison County’s communities while increasing existing issues, such as food insecurity,” said Kris Puskarich, a committee member for the Harrison County Community Foundation. “We are so excited to fund several organizations working on the ground to make a difference in Harrison County’s communities during this challenging time.”

Ten grants were awarded through the partnership of the Harrison County Community Foundation and FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund. The projects serve the Harrison County community:

Cadiz Food Pantry received funding to purchase additional shelving, carts, and other items that support the Pantry’s ability to meet the increased need for food, clothing, and toiletries in Harrison County.

Cadiz Ohio Salvation Army received funding to assist community members with utility, transportation, and housing expenses.

Deersville Community Theatre received funding to invest in theatre improvements like hand sanitizer stations and automatic soap and towel dispensers to allow enable the theatre to operate in a safe manner during the pandemic.

Harrison Central Alumni Association received funding to offset fundraising revenue lost as a result of the pandemic and support graduating seniors with scholarship awards.

Harrison Central High School received funding to engage students in community service projects through creative activities such as making blankets, dog toys, and holiday cards that serve the community during the challenges created by the pandemic.

Harrison County Dog Pound Volunteers received funding to support continued services by offsetting revenue lost during the pandemic and to spay, neuter, and provide veterinary services to dogs without homes. These services provide benefits to the county, the future adopter, and the dogs.

Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department received funding to support ongoing expenses, allowing the VFD to invest in equipment that makes it possible for paramedics to practice greater social distancing while providing optimal care to patients.

Humane Society of Harrison County received funding to support continued services by offsetting revenue lost during the pandemic and to care for abused and neglected animals of Harrison County. This grant will be used for animal surgeries and procedures.

The Olive Branch Outreach received funding to support ongoing operational expenses to ensure it can continue engaging in various service projects such as community meals and payment assistance. These service projects help people, build community, and create possibilities for the residents of Harrison County.

4-H Camp Piedmont received funding to cover expenses and continue providing personal and leadership development opportunities for campers and counselors.
