Six Guernsey County Organizations Receive Grant Awards

Cambridge, OH – The Guernsey County Foundation at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) has announced $10,000 in grant awards through a partnership with FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund. These grant awards support Guernsey County organizations amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“The COVID-19 crisis has created new needs in Guernsey County’s communities while increasing existing issues, such as food insecurity,” said Maribeth Wright, president of the Guernsey County Foundation. “We are so excited to fund several organizations working on the ground to make a difference in Guernsey County’s communities during this challenging time.”

Six grants were awarded through the partnership of the Guernsey County Foundation and FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund. The projects serve the Guernsey County community:

American Red Cross East Central Ohio received funding to test 200 Guernsey County blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. This provides blood donors with information about their exposure to the virus, supports the ongoing search for effective treatments and vaccines, and supports the treatment of COVID-19 cases through antibody-positive plasma.

Cambridge City Schools received funding to install disinfectant sprayers in each K-12 building, as well as in the bus garage. This will allow the school system to keep surfaces as clean as possible to keep children and their families safe.

Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry received funding to support the processing of meat to donate to Guernsey County food pantries. This grant will allow the organization to process 10 deer, yielding about 500 pounds of meat.

Pike Home and School – East Muskingum Umbrella Booster received funding to provide filtration systems that use UV-C light to kill viruses to Pike School in Guernsey County. This will allow the school to disinfect classrooms. Funding also supports the purchase of additional thermometers to allow for temperature checks at multiple locations in the building.

St. Benedict School in Guernsey County received funding to install three automatic paper towel dispensers and a water bottle refill station. These new devices operate without the need to touch surfaces, enhancing sanitation and safety.

Guernsey County CASA received funding to purchase technology for virtual visits between volunteer workers and the children they are assigned by courts to represent in abuse and neglect cases. Funding also supports personal protective equipment for volunteers to keep them safe while attending public meetings.
