Tenth Community Fund Opens at Foundation for Appalachian Ohio
Logan, OH – There is no shortage of exciting news coming out of the Hocking County community and tonight, the community can celebrate the creation of the Hocking County Community Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO). Designed for the benefit of Hocking County, its citizens, and communities, the Fund is a new way for anyone with a heart for Hocking County to give back and make a difference.
The Logan-Hocking School District spearheaded the creation of the new Hocking County Community Fund with a vision for increasing the ability of everyone to invest in Hocking County through grants and scholarships. An endowment, the Hocking County Community Fund will gather resources through gifts and invest those dollars for the benefit of Hocking County residents over generations.
“The Logan-Hocking School District has long served the Hocking County community through one of our most precious assets, our young people,” said Monte Bainter, superintendent of the Logan-Hocking School District. “With the establishment of the Hocking County Community Fund and the Family of Funds within it, we are looking forward to the opportunity to serve the broader community.”
The Family of Funds will grow to serve the arts, community development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services, including efforts like the restoration of the historic Chakeres Theater, continued development of Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, and development of the Chieftain Center, an 81,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility that will be available for use by both students and the community.
The Logan-Hocking Local School District has also transitioned two scholarship funds, the Frank Judy Family-Logan High School Scholarship Fund, and the Mary Ruth Krinn Family Memorial Scholarship Fund to be a part of the Family of Funds. Their purposes of serving Hocking County students align perfectly with the mission of the Hocking County Community Fund to create local opportunities and the scholarships will continue to honor the original legacies and guiding principles of the scholarships.
The Hocking County Community Foundation and its Family of Funds are currently forming fund committees to oversee and fundraise to support each of the funds. Gifts to the Hocking County Community Fund and its Family of Funds are tax deductible and can be made in many ways, including cash, bequests, appreciated stock, IRA distributions, and life insurance. Donations can be made online at www.AppalachianOhio.org by designating the Hocking County Community Fund when donating. To mail your donation, please designate the fund and mail to the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, PO Box 456, Nelsonville, OH 45764.
