Family of Funds Supports Grants and Scholarships for Southern Local Community

SPCAEF Committee Recieves GiftCorning, OHOne million. It’s a number that carries some serious impact. And it’s a milestone that the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund (SPCEAF) and its Family of Funds just reached. Thanks to a recent gift from Ben Shaver, a Perry County native and alumnus of Moxahala High School, the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund surpassed its goal of growing $1 million in permanent endowment to benefit citizens in the Southern Local School District forever.

“Hitting $1 million is a milestone that would not have been possible without the many donors who have given to SPCAEF over the years,” said Angela Plant, president of the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund board. “We are so grateful to Mr. Shaver for helping us reach this groundbreaking landmark. With a combined endowment of $1 million, we can grow more dollars to serve generations of students while also investing more in scholarships and local educational programs today.”

SPCAEF was established in 1987 to create resources to promote academic experiences for residents of the Southern Local School district. A member of the Community Foundation for Perry County’s Family of Funds and composed of 21 donor-established funds, SPCAEF partners with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to provide scholarships as well as community mini-grants to promote academic excellence and enrichment opportunities for Southern Local School District residents.

In 2016, the SPCAEF and its Family of Funds awarded grants to three organizations serving the Southern Local community and awarded scholarships to fifteen Southern Local students pursuing post-secondary education, totaling more than $13,000 in support for the southern Perry County community.

Gifts to the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund are tax deductible and can be made in many ways, including cash, bequests, and life insurance.
