101 Students Throughout Appalachian Ohio Receive Funding for Post-Secondary Education
Nelsonville, OH – Donning a cap and gown is a moment students look forward to around our region. Not only because it marks the end of one phase of their lives, but because it signals the start of the next one. 101 students from throughout our region will have additional resources to make that next phase of their lives – post-secondary education – easier to achieve thanks to scholarships awarded from funds at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO). These 101 students received 111 scholarship awards, totaling over $163,000 in support for their post-secondary educations.
“Our region’s students have worked so hard to get to this moment,” said Cara Dingus Brook, president and CEO of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. “FAO is proud to partner with our donors to give the gift of education, allowing students to pursue their studies and goals.”
Thanks to the support of generous donors, FAO is able to award scholarships from more than 40 scholarship funds to students pursuing varied paths of post-secondary education across the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio. Awarded through a competitive application process, FAO partners with donor-established scholarship funds to honor the legacy and story behind each fund and the friend or loved ones each honors.
The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s mission is to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities by inspiring and supporting philanthropy. More information regarding FAO’s scholarships and a full list of 2016 recipients can be found on FAO’s website, www.AppalachianOhio.org.
