Celebrating Appalachian Ohioans at the 2015 Foundation for Appalachian Ohio Legacy Reception
Nelsonville, OH – On Thursday, September 24, 2015, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) will host A Celebration of Legacy at the historic Stuart’s Opera House on Nelsonville’s Public Square. Open to the public, the reception and program will pay tribute to the legacies that FAO honors and the opportunities they create. The event will begin at 5pm with a reception at Stuart’s Opera House with the program to follow at 5:30pm.
The event will highlight 2015 scholarship recipients and the donors who make those opportunities possible as well as FAO’s 2015 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year, Mary K Walsh, and Jenco Foundation Fund Award recipients who exhibit visionary leadership in the service of others throughout Appalachian Ohio. This year’s Jenco Foundation Fund Award recipients include Donna Sue Groves of Adams County, Bill Crawford of Columbiana County, Margaret Fredericks and Nancy Sams of Washington County, Jodie Hunt of Lawrence County, and Iva Sisson of Meigs County. A video highlighting this year’s Jenco recipients and the work they’ve done in their communities will premiere at the event.
The Celebration will also feature performances by ADU Proyecto Universal, a Peruvian performance group that uses dance, music, and percussion to create performance art. The group leads outreach programs for at-risk youth in Lima, Peru. Their performance was made possible by a generous grant from the McClelland Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. ADU Proyecto Universal will also perform at Stuart’s Opera House and Ohio University earlier in the week.
The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s mission is to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities by inspiring and supporting philanthropy. A central part of this work is to support communities across five areas essential to community and regional quality of life. Called the Pillars of Prosperity, these areas include arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services.
FAO would like to invite any and all interested in learning more about FAO and celebrating the good work of their neighbors to join us at Stuart’s Opera House.
