Nelsonville, OH – The Harrison Hills City School District Fund and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio announced two grant awards for educational opportunities in Harrison County. The investment of $3,000 will support students in experiencing arts and culture as well as science and the environment through field trips allowing for first-hand encounters with the subjects they are studying.
“It is energizing to see the work being done in our community already and to see what our local nonprofit and education leaders can do with grant resources,” said Kris Puskarich, Harrison Hills City School District Fund committee member. “This is why the HHCSDF was created. We are here so that we can all invest in our students.”
The Harrison Hills City School District Fund is a member of the Harrison County Foundation’s Family of Funds and is committed to supporting educational opportunities for students in Harrison Hills. Gifts to the Fund enrich the academic and cultural opportunities available to students and educators, by providing support for enhanced education programs activities, resources for field trips, scholarships, and other opportunities.
These most recent grants include:
The Harrison Hills School District received a $2,000 grant award from the Harrison Hills City School District Fund. This award supports the Building Student Backgrounds project to expand cultural and historical understanding among Harrison Hills students through educational field trips. Prior to field trips to a musical, the Ohio Capital, and the Village of Schoenbrum, students will learn about and research the places they visit. Three hundred and sixty students in third, sixth, and eighth grades will participate in the program.
The Wilds received a $1,000 grant award from the Harrison Hills City School District Fund to support the Learning is Wild Scholarship Program. The award will support scholarships for Harrison County students to attend Day Venture field trips, overnight field trips, or WildeCamp. These scholarships will allow the students to experience conservation education and science in action.
“We could not be more pleased to partner with the Harrison Hills City School District Fund to support these students,” said Cara Dingus Brook, president and CEO of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. “The Fund’s work to grow resources for students is exemplary and these grants will help students experience their lessons in one-of-a-kind ways.”
