19 Miller High School Students Receive Scholarships
Nelsonville, OH – Nineteen Miller High School students have received scholarship awards for the 2014-2015 academic year from the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund (SPCAEF). This year, the Fund gave over $15,000 in scholarship awards, through their family of funds.
“We’re so thrilled to award these scholarships,” said Lynann Bolyard, of SPCAEF’s advisory committee. “It means so much to all of us to be able to help our local students, and we are glad to continue the SPCAEF tradition of encouraging our students with the partnership of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio.”
The Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund was established in 1988 with the purpose of creating resources to promote learning experiences for the residents of the Southern Local School District located in the southern portion of Perry County. This year, the group created a fund with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to grow their resources and to provide scholarships and mini-grants to promote academic excellence and sponsor enrichment opportunities for the students and citizens of the Southern Local School District.
A complete list of this year’s recipients can be found on SPCAEF’s webpage.
The Ben and Alyce Shaver Scholarship Fund, which is also a part of the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund, awarded its second year of scholarships, totaling $2,500, to the following Miller High School Students: Stephen McGrath, Zack Tokie, Dakota Sinift, Donald Spergin, and Haley Williams. Ben Shaver, a former president of the Ohio County Superintendents Association, established the scholarship fund with the hope that it will enable young people to build strong foundations for their lives.
