Gallia Community Foundation Fund Adds a New Fund

Nelsonville, OH The Gallia Community Foundation Fund was created in February 2011, with the vision of being Gallia County’s leading philanthropic partner to enrich the community, improve the standard of living, and preserve the county’s unique culture. Currently, it is a permanent endowment fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO). The Gallia Community Foundation partners with donors to gather and grow resources to invest and reinvest in opportunities, for the benefit of the Gallia County community.

FAO is pleased to announce the Gallia Community Foundation has added a new fund, the Gallia County Arts and Culture Fund.  It is focused on supporting arts and culture in Gallia County. With the addition of this new fund, the Gallia Community Foundation’s Family of Funds has grown to over $190,000, for the benefit of Gallia County.

Created by an anonymous donor, with a passion for Gallia County and the arts, the Gallia County Arts and Culture Fund was established as a permanent endowment to grow resources to support arts and culture for generations to come. The Fund will make grants to support the community, from its interest and earnings. The Gallia Community Foundation Advisory Committee will also serve as the Gallia Arts and Culture Fund Advisory Committee. Membership includes Marianne Campbell, Joe Foster, Jeff Smith, Ryan Smith, Jan Thaler, and the Foundation’s President, Tom Wiseman.

President Wiseman sees this as an important step for Gallia County and hopes other agencies and individuals will support and help grow the Fund. The addition of this fund further diversifies the existing Family of Funds and their ability to support the Gallia County community. The Gallia County Arts and Culture Fund joins the Digital River Project Fund and the Gallipolis/Gallia Bicentennial Fund.

The Digital River Project focuses on creating an ecosystem of innovation, through recruitment of high tech industry, business development initiatives, and quality of life enrichment for those living and working in Gallia County. The Gallipolis/Gallia Bicentennial Fund works to support projects for the general benefit of Gallia County.

Local community foundation funds are powerful vehicles for communities looking to grow resources, address a community’s current and future needs, as well as support developing opportunities. A community foundation fund often spurs the growth of other funds, focused on the same community, thereby creating a “family of funds.” Although each fund may have a distinct purpose within the community, all funds concentrate on growing a stronger community, for its current and future residents.

Starting a fund is similar to a savings account, where many contribute and resources grow over time, to create a great asset for a county and its residents. In working with FAO, the fund is relieved of the administrative processes and duties, managed by FAO. The Fund can therefore give primary attention to what matters most – the development of resources and the most pressing local needs and opportunities. The Gallia Community Foundation Fund has found great success in growing its Family of Fund assets to over $190,000, in under two years.

The Gallia Community Foundation Advisory Committee encourages individuals and businesses to support any of these funds and help them grow to benefit the people of Gallia County. Should anyone have questions or suggestions, contact any member of the Advisory Committee. Those who would like to make a gift to the Gallia Community Foundation, or any of its Family of Funds, may mail a donation to the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, P. O. Box 456, Nelsonville, Ohio 45764, or visit www.fao.local, and designate the desired fund, when making a donation.
