In partnership with the Walmart Foundation and ICAN! Corporate Partners, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) is pleased to announce recipients of the Walmart Foundation Strive for Excellence Mini-Grants, providing support to classroom experiences promoting science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM).

“The future growth of our economy is going to be directly connected to how well we prepare students today with the intellectual and technical skills to become tomorrow’s problem solvers,” said David Gose, Regional General Manager for Walmart’s southern Ohio region. “Walmart is proud to continue its support of FAO and its mission to engage students in Appalachia in a more rigorous STEMM education that will be the cornerstone for future academic and professional success.”

Access to a rigorous STEMM education has become increasingly necessary for our region’s students as they prepare to enter a global workplace with the problem solving skills and 21st century technical knowledge needed to succeed. In partnership with the Walmart Foundation and ICAN! Corporate Partners – DHI, ED MAP, Oxford Mining and Tata Sons Unlimited, FAO has awarded more than $165,000 through 83 mini-grants to increase access to STEMM experiences and coursework to help position our region’s students and educators for personal and professional success.

“The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is honored to partner with the Walmart Foundation and ICAN! Corporate Partners in providing educators an opportunity to identify and pursue methods of enhancing their students’ learning experiences in STEMM,” said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO’s President and CEO. “Through these mini-grants, the Walmart Foundation, DHI, ED MAP, Oxford Mining, and Tata Sons Unlimited are partnering with educators to impact the educational opportunities available to our region’s students.”
