Nelsonville, Ohio – Duke Energy, a leading energy company located in the Americas with an affiliated real estate operation headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., recently announced a donation of $20,000 to the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), a regional 501(c)(3) community foundation serving the 29 counties of Appalachian Ohio to enhance quality of life. FAO fulfills this mission by “Fostering Access to Opportunities;” specifically, working to grow and deploy the funds and leadership our region needs to improve the lives of those who live and work here.
“Duke Energy is pleased to assist the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio in its efforts to create opportunities for families and grow philanthropic resources for our region,” said Ron Cremeans, general manager of Midwest Generation Operations at Duke Energy.
The company has facilities in Washington, Lawrence, and Clermont Counties and serves much of southern Appalachian Ohio. Duke Energy is a committed partner in improving quality of life for Appalachian Ohio, providing support to the Foundation since 2004 as well as various community initiatives and economic development opportunities throughout the region.
“The support of partners like Duke Energy enables the Foundation’s work to harness the power of charitable giving on behalf of our region,” said Cara Dingus Brook, president and CEO of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. “This means scholarships for our region’s young people, grants that set powerful ideas into actions to make a difference, and the creation of permanent resources to support our communities today and far into the future.”
During its ten years of service, FAO has made a tremendous difference by developing tools and partnerships to combat regional problems, including investing over $1.3 million in grants and scholarships to meet unique needs and opportunities in communities across Appalachian Ohio. The continued, generous support of Duke Energy will enable FAO to continue to serve as our region’s community foundation, building capacity and increasing philanthropic resources for Appalachian Ohio.
