Empowering the success of our young people
From our very beginning, FAO and our supporters recognized that one of the most impactful things we can do is to encourage our region’s young people to believe in their potential and empower them to succeed.
Our scholarship program began in 2003, when Dr. Harry Keig left a bequest that established the Forrest Bachtel Scholarship – the very first scholarship fund at FAO. Today, the Bachtel Scholarship continues to support the educational dreams of young people in Meigs County and has inspired many others to contribute to and create scholarship funds for the students of Appalachian Ohio.
Since the awarding of the first Bachtel Scholarships in 2004, a total of 4,900 scholarships have been given through FAO thanks to the generosity of donors who have established more than 280 scholarship funds.
