Eleven grants to support nonprofit, public and youth-led projects and programs

CADIZ, Ohio – The Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) has awarded 11 grants, totaling $31,890, to support initiatives benefiting the county’s residents and communities, including a youth-led project.

“We are honored to be investing our donors’ dollars into work that will enhance the lives of our residents and communities throughout Harrison County for years to come,” said Kris Puskarich, HCCF committee member. “And we are particularly excited to be supporting a group of local high school students who are giving back to their community by creating Harrison County’s first StoryWalk.”

This summer, HCCF and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund invited nonprofits, schools and public organizations to apply for grants to advance initiatives across five areas essential to creating and sustaining transformative change: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Emphasis was on supporting individuals of all ages who are spearheading projects and programs that create opportunities, meet pressing needs and unleash the potential within Harrison County.

Grants were awarded to:

· Cadiz Cub Scout Pack 269 to support its annual day camp

· Deersville Community Players to enhance areas in the theatre used for costume and prop storage

· Eastern Ohio Extension Camps – 4-H Camp Piedmont to install utility poles at the camp

· Harrison County Dog Pound Volunteers to fund canine spaying/neutering

· Harrison County Genealogical Society to provide painting supplies for a new mural paying tribute to the people who won Cadiz the “Proudest Small Town in America” award in 1939

· Harrison County Tourism Council to sponsor artists for The Mark at the Park Summer Concert Series 2024

· Humane Society of Harrison County to supports its Trap, Spay/Neuter, and Shelter Project

· The iBELIEVE Foundation to fund the participation of Harrison County youth in the 2024 iBELIEVE Youth Leadership Workshops

· Lakeland Academy Community School to purchase educational supplies and snacks for before- and after-school care

· Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio to help cover overnight stays for Harrison County families

The I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund provided HCCF up to $5,000 to support projects developed and implemented by local youth under age 18. The goal of this funding is to empower young leaders and inspire them to embrace greater roles in their communities. HCCF awarded youth-led project grant funding to the Harrison Central Senior Group. The grant will fund a service-learning class project spearheaded by four Harrison Central High School seniors who are partnering with the school’s shop class and community organizations to construct a StoryWalk on the Conotton Creek Trail.
