Over $870,000 in scholarships awarded to students across the region
NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) and the Community Foundation for Perry County have awarded over $870,000 in donor-established postsecondary scholarships to students across the 32-county region, including a student from Perry County.
Ashton Carroll of Corning received the Susan K. Ipacs Legacy Scholarship for Nursing Advancement. This scholarship supports students participating in a course of study that allows a Licensed Practical Nurse to complete the eligibility requirements to take the NCLEX-RN exam as well as established patient care-focused healthcare workers, including EMTs, nursing assistants and home health aides, who plan to pursue a career in nursing. Carroll, a 2020 graduate of New Lexington High School, attends the Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
FAO partners with donors, an advisory committee of volunteers and its affiliate foundations, including the Community Foundation for Perry County, to award scholarships to students across Appalachian Ohio through a competitive application process.
To date this year, FAO has awarded over 670 postsecondary scholarships to more than 330 students across 25 counties thanks to gifts from residents and friends of Appalachian Ohio who recognize the role education plays in ensuring the region’s people and communities can flourish.
