Deadline to Apply is March 15, 2022

Cambridge, OH – Graduating Buckeye Trail high school students have an opportunity to obtain a scholarship to pursue post-secondary studies in education.

The James and Martha Thomas Scholarship Fundwas established to honor the lives and legacy of James and Martha Thomas. James was a former educator who began his teaching career in a one-room school called Bloomingrove, which was located on State Route 513 between Middlebourne and Antrim. James later taught at Londonderry Elementary, Oxford Elementary, Old Washington Elementary and Quaker City Elementary. His teaching and administrative career lasted 40 years. In memory of James and Martha Thomas, this scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student from Buckeye Trail High School seeking a career in teaching.

To be eligible, applicants must be a graduating senior of Buckeye Trail High School, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, must be pursuing a two or four year degree with the goal of a career in teaching. Students must also demonstrate reliability, a positive attitude, integrity, honesty, responsibility, persistence, independence, enterprise, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

The James and Martha Thomas Scholarship is a fund of the Guernsey County Foundation under the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), a regional community foundation serving the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

FAO’s general scholarship application form will be available February 15, 2022, from high school guidance offices and on FAO’s website at www.AppalachianOhio.org/ScholarshipApplications.
