Nine grants to support nonprofit, public and youth-led projects and programs

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio – The Gallia Community Foundation (GCF) has awarded nine grants, totaling $20,966, to support initiatives benefiting the county’s residents and communities, including two youth-led projects.

“This funding is another chapter in our journey to support our neighbors and our communities in ways that will be felt today and for years to come,” said Nick Roach, GCF committee member. “We are incredibly grateful for the donors who make these grants possible and the doers who turn their generosity into opportunity.”

This summer, GCF and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund invited nonprofits, schools and public organizations to apply for grants to advance initiatives across five areas essential to creating and sustaining transformative change: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Emphasis was on supporting individuals of all ages who are spearheading projects and programs that create opportunities, meet pressing needs and unleash the potential within Gallia County.

Grants were awarded to:

· Appalachian Breastfeeding Network to fund Gallia County residents’ participation in a training program designed to increase lactation education in the community

· Court Street Ministries to fund children’s holiday stockings, community dinners and other items for unsheltered and at-risk individuals in Gallia County

· Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio to enroll additional Gallia County children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio

· Ohio University Foundation to fund Gallia County youth’s participation in the Ohio University Diabetes Institute’s CAT Camp, a day camp for youth with Type 1 diabetes

· Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio to help cover the cost of overnight stays for Gallia County families

· Square One GJM to purchase groceries for the shelter

· University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College to support the Center for Entrepreneurship’s inaugural student pitch competition

The I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund provided GCF up to $5,000 to support projects developed and implemented by local youth under age 18. The goal of this funding is to empower young leaders and inspire them to embrace greater roles in their communities. GCF awarded youth-led project grant funding to:

· The iBELIEVE Foundation to fund the participation of Gallia County youth in the 2024 iBELIEVE Youth Leadership Workshops

· inspiHER Girls Leadership Foundation to support the inspirHER Girls Leadership Retreat for Gallia County fifth- through eighth-grade girls at the University of Rio Grande
