Sixteen Southern Local School District graduates receive scholarships

CORNING, Ohio – The Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund (SPCAEF) has awarded more than 50 scholarships to graduates of Miller High School who are pursuing a postsecondary education in various areas of study.

Established in 1987, SPCAEF promotes academic excellence and enrichment opportunities for the Southern Local School District community by partnering with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to provide scholarships and community grants. SPCAEF’s 2023 scholarship recipients are:

· Colby Bartley received the Briggs Family Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; and the Charlene Joseph Scholarship.

· Jeb Bolyard received the Murray and Lulu Brown Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the John and Elsie Exenkemper Scholarship; and the Donald and Catherine Palmer Scholarship.

· Josie Crabtree received the Briggs Family Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; and the Charlene Joseph Scholarship.

· Brody Dutiel received the Catherine Blankenship Scholarship as well as the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship.

· Hunter Dutiel received the Briggs Family Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; and the Charlene Joseph Scholarship.

· Johnna Gardner received the Briggs Family Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; and the Commander Lambert Scholarship.

· Courtney Glenaman received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Shawnee Alumni Scholarship; and the Robert Woodruff and Charles and Elizabeth Woodruff Scholarship.

· Willow Grahame received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the William and Frances Dunlap Scholarship; and the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund Scholarship.

· Emma Hartberger received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Bruce and Delores Hannah Scholarship; the Shawnee

Alumni Scholarship; and the Robert Woodruff and Charles and Elizabeth Woodruff Scholarship.

· Taylor Hinkle received the Briggs Family Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; and the Bruce and Delores Hannah Scholarship.

· Torin Hinkle received the Corning Alumni Scholarship; the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Vincent and Gene Hope Scholarship; and the Robert Woodruff and Charles and Elizabeth Woodruff Scholarship.

· Alyssa Kiefer received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship and the Ben and Alyce Shaver Scholarship.

· Patrick McConnell received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Bruce and Delores Hannah Scholarship; the Shawnee Alumni Scholarship; and the Robert Woodruff and Charles and Elizabeth Woodruff Scholarship.

· Brynley Needham received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Joseph and Marie Lichtenstein Scholarship; and the Jack and Clara Reho Scholarship.

· Katie Palmer received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Commander Lambert Scholarship; the Donald and Catherine Palmer Scholarship; and the Robert Woodruff and Charles and Elizabeth Woodruff Scholarship.

· Joseph Tokie received the Jesse, Olema and Ralph Drake Scholarship; the Paul and Charlotte Hope Scholarship; and the Vincent and Gene Hope Scholarship.

FAO partners with donors, volunteers and affiliate foundations, including the Community Foundation for Perry County, to award scholarships through a competitive application process to students across the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

To date this year, FAO has awarded nearly 600 postsecondary scholarships, totaling more than $593,000, to 337 students thanks to gifts from residents and friends of Appalachian Ohio who recognize the role education can play in the future success of both young adults and the region’s communities.
