More than $25,000 in funding to support nonprofit and public projects, programs

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio – The Community Foundation for Perry County (CFPC) has awarded 10 grants, totaling more than $25,000, to advance projects and programs serving individuals throughout Perry County.

“These grants, made possible by local leaders, partners and donors committed to the success of Perry County, will have an immediate and lasting impact,” said Tony Fiore, president of the CFPC committee. “As we celebrate the foundation’s 10th anniversary, we are grateful to everyone who has played a role in what we’ve been able to do for Perry County over the past decade, and we’re filled with hope and excitement for the future of our communities.”

Earlier this year, CFPC, in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund, invited nonprofit and public organizations to apply for grants for projects and programs benefiting Perry County residents. Preference was given to efforts that increase quality of life, create access to opportunities or implement a solution to a local need.

Ten grants were awarded during the 2022 funding cycle:

· Destination Shawnee to help equip Shawnee Showtime, a monthly event providing children and families access to movies and educational documentaries without the expense of tickets, refreshments and travel.

· Mount Aloysius Corp. to support the creation of a community outdoor recreation center, where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can build friendships with their peers and members of the Perry County community while participating in athletic events, including Special Olympics.

· Perry County Cultural Arts Center to support its summer art workshops.

· Perry County Health Department to support the creation of a pollinator garden adjacent to the New Lexington Wetlands Project.

· Perry Soil and Water Conservation District to help fund a geophysical survey of the “squircle” area in Glenford Fort Preserve, a 63-acre site that will become an outdoor laboratory and education center.

· Rendville Historic Preservation Society to support an urgent restoration to the front face of the Town Hall as part of the Rendville Heritage Center, scheduled to partially open in 2023.

· Rural Action to help fund a Family Fishing Day event at Lake Tecumseh.

· Somerset Artists’ Cooperative to help fund next summer’s Kids Creativity Camp.

· Tecumseh Theater to support its Saturday Matinees and the creation of a community work of theatrical art.

· Village of Hemlock to help secure veteran banners, American flags and Ohio flags to be displayed within the village.

Donations to the Community Foundation for Perry County help fund these annual grants that meet communities’ greatest needs and most promising opportunities. Thanks to a partnership with FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund, dollar-for-dollar matches are currently available for gifts to CFPC.
