More than $25,000 awarded to support projects, programs benefiting Hocking County

LOGAN, Ohio – The Hocking County Community Fund (HCCF), in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), has awarded 13 grants, totaling $25,200, to support projects and programs benefiting the county’s residents and communities.

“We are honored to partner with those with a heart for Hocking County who give to support our neighbors and communities,” said Bailey Venzin, HCCF committee member. “These grants are investments in those who give their passion, energy and transformative ideas in service to Hocking County.”

Nonprofits, schools and public organizations serving Hocking County were invited to apply for grants to advance opportunities across five areas essential to flourishing communities: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Emphasis is on supporting individuals of all ages who are spearheading projects and programs that create opportunities, meet pressing needs and unleash the collective potential within Hocking County.

Grants were awarded to:

  • First Presbyterian Church of Logan to purchase food for its food pantry
  • FosterHub to help provide resources, including housing and food, to Hocking County youth aging out of the foster care system
  • Green Township Trustees to support enhancements to the Haydenville park, including the addition of musical activities
  • Helping Hands of Southeast Ohio to support the expansion of the Home Beautification and Safe at Home programs to seniors and individuals with disabilities in the City of Logan
  • Hocking County Community Garden to support a Growing Home Fellowship project that will establish a summer garden and donate all produce to local food pantries
  • Hocking County Historical Society to support the expansion of the farming display area
  • Hocking Hills Archers of Faith, a sub ministry of Southern Ohio Fishers of Men Association, to support the faith-based archery program for Hocking County children in fourth through 12th grades
  • Logan-Hocking Local Schools received three grants: (1) to fund facilitators for a new program that will offer comprehensive parenting classes and support, (2) to support Project SAFE’s food distributions and grab-and-go meals for middle school students and (3) to provide copies of the district’s annual literary anthology, featuring the work of students and staff, to participants and each school library in the district, as well as to fund materials for other writing opportunities throughout the school year
  • Logan Theater Inc. to purchase tables for the facility’s second and third floors

In addition, HCCF, with funding from FAO, awarded two grants to Logan-Hocking Local Schools to support projects developed and implemented by local youth under age 18. The goal of this funding is to inspire young people to embrace roles as changemakers committed to creating strong, vibrant communities. HCCF’s youth-led grants will support:

  • Logan High School’s Student Leadership program, which includes juniors and seniors who collaborate with Jostens Renaissance and Ohio State Collaborative to research potential solutions for an area of concern they identify at the school
  • Community bloodmobile drives organized by Logan High School students in partnership with the American Red Cross

HCCF, one of FAO’s 15 affiliate foundation partners, was established in 2019 to develop and grow permanent charitable resources that provide continuous investment in Hocking County and its nonprofits, schools and communities.
