Over $870,000 in scholarships awarded to students across the region
CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) and the Guernsey County Foundation have awarded over $870,000 in donor-established postsecondary scholarships to students across the 32-county region, including dozens of Guernsey County students.
Nineteen 2026 Cambridge High School graduates were awarded scholarships through the Cambridge City Schools Scholarship Foundation Fund:
- Kaelyn Black received the Joe Mowad Memorial Scholarship
- Emma Brown received the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Garrett Carpenter received the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Miranda Cole received the Art Clemenson Scholarship and the Elizabeth Burgess Briggs Trust Fund Scholarship
- Kaylee Garcia received the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Dawson Geese received the Isaac and Carey Esper Scholarship, the Ralph G. Ferguson Scholarship and the Tim McBride Memorial Scholarship
- Alex Geiler received the Bruce Orahoske Scholarship and the Harvey and Edna Ferrier Scholarship
- Audrina Gibson received the Charles W. & Olive L. Hanna Scholarship
- Delana Harper received the Scott Harper Bennett Memorial Scholarship
- Aliza Kidwell received the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Braden King received the Achilles Nicholakis Scholarship
- Anthony Mascolino received the Gregory Cardamone Scholarship, the Kathryn L. Duffey-Baker and Hostetler Scholarship, and the Tim McBride Memorial Scholarship
- Rylan Mathews received the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Laynee Oldson received the Erven Trust Fund Scholarship
- Mylee Reed received the Russel B. Diehl Scholarship
- Gracie Rodriguez received the Mary Moore Scholarship
- Mason Showalter received the John and Rose Dunlavy Scholarship
- Dawson Spratt received the Cecil J. McFarland Science Scholarship, the Charles E. Jefferson Scholarship and the Whitney Proctor Scholarship
- Abbigail Waggoner received the Charles R. Nelson Scholarship
Emily Clark, Braden King and Nicholas Norman received the AK Steel Foundation Scholarship, supporting students pursuing studies in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields with particular emphasis on metallurgy.
Madelyn Cazzell and Eden Durham are Guernsey County’s inaugural recipients of the Area Agency on Aging Region 9 Scholarship, supporting students residing in the agency’s nine-county service area who are pursuing an RN or LSW degree from a college or university within the service area.
Destini Abrams, Emma Brown, Luceilia Casey, Madelyn Cazzell, Braden King, Summer Rogers and Faith Saxton received the Bob Evans and Wayne F. White Legacy Scholarship, honoring the legacy and commitment these two friends had to the Appalachian Ohio region.
Emma Brown and Braden King received the Cambridge High School Class of ’57 Scholarship, supporting graduating seniors of Cambridge High School.
Grace Kackley and Alaceia Smith received the Charles E. Chippi Scholarship, supporting graduating Guernsey County high school seniors pursuing postsecondary studies in education.
The G.D. Agnew Foundation Scholarship provides support to Guernsey County students who attend an accredited two-year or four-year higher education institution or an accredited vocational program. The 2026 recipients are:

Alex Geiler, Gwenyth Jefferis, Aspen Jones and Alaceia Smith received the George and Mary Ellen Ontko Scholarship, supporting graduating seniors and graduates of Guernsey County high schools with priority given to students pursuing careers in education.
Aspen Jones received the James and Martha Thomas Scholarship, supporting graduates of Buckeye Trail High School, with priority given to students seeking a career in teaching.
Emma Brown and Madison Johnson received the Jeanne Warne Frontz Memorial Scholarship, supporting female Cambridge High School graduates or past attendees who have since received a high school equivalency or GED diploma, with priority given to students studying business, finance or accounting and attending The Ohio State University.
Destini Abrams, Natalie Chumney and Jadien Parry received the Jeff Cox and Jane Schumacher Cox Scholarship, supporting students at Buckeye Trail High School and Monroe Central High School.
Lily Jefferis received the Jenny Cornelius-Woltz Memorial Scholarship, supporting students graduating from John Glenn High School with a primary interest in nursing.
The Lester D. and Thelma I. Ellwood Scholarship supports access to educational opportunities by assisting Guernsey County high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education. The 2026 recipients are:

Destini Abrams, Natalie Chumney and Jadien Parry received the Loran and Shirley Stutz Scholarship, providing postsecondary education support to students residing in the East Guernsey Local School District.
Kaelyn Black, Natalie Chumney and Abbigail Waggoner received the Mandy McGlumphy Social Work Scholarship, established to support the postsecondary education of students pursuing studies in the field of mental health.
Natalie Chumney received the Michael C. Long Legacy Scholarship, supporting college-bound Buckeye Trail students.
Luceilia Casey received the Ora E. Anderson Scholarship, established to honor Ora Eaton Anderson, which supports students who plan to pursue postsecondary studies in natural sciences and demonstrate an overall commitment to environmental protection and conservation.
Braden King received the Ralph L. and Linda S. Warne Engineering Scholarship, supporting Guernsey County residents pursuing studies in engineering at an accredited engineering college or university in Ohio.
Madison Peters received the Rose Elizabeth Bell MacConkey Scholarship for Women Going into a Career in Business, awarded to Cambridge High School students.
FAO partners with donors, an advisory committee of volunteers and its affiliate foundations, including the Guernsey County Foundation, to award scholarships to students across Appalachian Ohio through a competitive application process.
To date this year, FAO has awarded over 670 postsecondary scholarships to more than 330 students across 25 counties thanks to gifts from residents and friends of Appalachian Ohio who recognize the role education plays in ensuring the region’s people and communities can flourish.
