Dozens of Guernsey County students receive scholarships

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) has awarded more than $593,000 in donor-established postsecondary scholarships to students across Appalachian Ohio, including many students from Guernsey County.

The Agnew Foundation Scholarship provides support to Guernsey County students who attend an accredited two-year or four-year higher education institution or an accredited vocational program. The 2023 recipients are:

· Camden Black, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Kendyl Cannon, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Maggi Carna, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Sydney Dennison, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Sarah Hunter, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Braden Jones, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Bailey Khune, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Madison May, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Ashton Miles, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Caden Moore, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Ty Reed, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Gavin Stillion, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Kylie Taylor, a graduate of Cambridge High School

Josie Rominger, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School, received the Bob Evans and Wayne F. White Legacy Scholarship, honoring the legacy and commitment these two friends had to the Appalachian Ohio region.

The Cambridge High School Class of ’57 Scholarship, supporting graduating seniors of Cambridge High School, was awarded to:

· Maggi Carna

· Ty Reed

The Charles E. Chippi Scholarship, supporting graduating Guernsey County high school seniors pursuing postsecondary studies in education, was awarded to:

· Sydney Dennison

· Jenna Paden, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

The Don Coss Memorial Scholarship, created through a planned gift from Coss to provide postsecondary support for players on the Post 84 Cambridge American Legion baseball team that he established, was awarded to 12 Cambridge High School graduates. The 2023 recipients are:

· Tyler Dodd

· Austin Fox

· Parker Long

· Bryce Murdock

· Angelo Rocco

· Brock Valentine

· Jake Valentine

· Trent Valentine

· Andrew Yanico

Braxton King, a graduate of Cambridge High School, received the Doug Steele Memorial Scholarship, supporting the educational pursuits of Guernsey County students in honor and memory of Doug Steele.

The 2023 recipients of the James R. Milligan Legacy Scholarship, awarded annually to one male and one female member of the Cambridge High School National Honor Society, are:

· Joshua Atkinson

· Maggi Carna

Kamden Oldson received the James and Martha Thomas Scholarship, awarded annually to a student from Buckeye Trail High School who is pursuing a career in teaching.

Five Guernsey County students received the Jeff Cox and Jane Schumacher Cox Scholarship, supporting students at Buckeye Trail High School and Monroe Central High School. They are:

· Madison Paden

· Josie Rominger

· Dennis Wood

Camryn Hughes received the Jenny Cornelius-Woltz Memorial Scholarship, supporting students graduating from John Glenn High School with a primary interest in nursing.

The Lester D. and Thelma I. Ellwood Scholarship supports access to educational opportunities by assisting Guernsey County high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education. The 2023 recipients are:

· Laney Carpenter, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Kenzi Combs, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Sydney Dennison

· Madison Johnson, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Laken Kerns, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Braxton King

· Madison May

· Josie McComb, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

· Carson Paden, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

· Jenna Paden

· Madison Paden

· Ty Reed

· Josie Rominger

· Averey Roof, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Kenzlie Stafford, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· Emma Stratton, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

· Caitlyn Todd, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

· McKenzie Todd, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

The Loran and Shirley Stutz Scholarship, providing postsecondary education support to students residing and attending school in the East Guernsey Local School District, was awarded to:

· Josie Meredith, a graduate of Anderson Academy

· Josie Rominger

· Dennis Wood

Nicholas Neuhart received the Mary Kackley-Brill Scholarship, which provides support to a graduating senior from Buckeye Trail High School.

Dennis Wood received the Michael C. Long Legacy Scholarship, supporting college-bound Buckeye Trail students from Quaker City, Ohio.

The Paul Sayanek Scholarship, supporting seniors graduating from Guernsey County high schools, was awarded to:

· Zachary Altland, a graduate of Cambridge High School

· Nicholas Dodd, a graduate of Buckeye Trail High School

· Katelynn Heady, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School

Kylie Taylor received the Rose Elizabeth Bell MacConkey Scholarship for Women Going into a Career in Business, awarded to Cambridge High School students.

Sydney Dennison received the Winnie Mae Sharpe Education Scholarship, supporting students residing in Byesville who are graduating from Meadowbrook High School and planning to major in education.

FAO partners with donors, volunteers and affiliate foundations, including the Guernsey County Foundation, to award scholarships through a competitive application process to students across the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

To date this year, FAO has awarded nearly 600 postsecondary scholarships, totaling more than $593,000, to 337 students thanks to gifts from residents and friends of Appalachian Ohio who recognize the role education can play in the future success of both young adults and the region’s communities.
