Public schools, educators, students and service providers invited to apply by March 31<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NELSONVILLE, Ohio<\/strong> \u2013 The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), in partnership with the Longaberger Family Foundation, is opening its fifth round of funding to support K-12 civics education programming in public schools across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public schools, educators, students, and public and nonprofit organizations serving K-12 students across Appalachian Ohio\u2019s 32 counties are invited to apply for grant funding to support projects and programs that help students develop the knowledge and skills they need to become informed and engaged community members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, we want to meaningfully honor this milestone by encouraging our next generation of leaders,\u201d said Matt Kaido, Longaberger Family Foundation representative. \u201cDedicated funding for civics education is an investment in the well-being of our communities, state and nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Requests should be between $500 and $10,000 and will be evaluated based on potential impact. At least $40,000 in funding is available. Additional information and the application are available at www.AppalachianOhio.org\/civics<\/a>. Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, March 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe thank the Longaberger Family Foundation for its continued partnership and commitment to advancing civics education in our schools,\u201d said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO president and CEO. \u201cCivic health is essential to a flourishing Appalachian Ohio and requires engaged civic participation and strong community leadership. With this funding, our young people will not only study civics. They\u2019ll be inspired to contribute to their communities now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2019, FAO and the Longaberger Family Foundation have awarded more than $135,000 in civics education grants through the Strengthening Civics Education in Appalachian Ohio program. This initiative is part of FAO\u2019s Education Pillar of Prosperity, one of five areas essential to growing and sustaining a flourishing Appalachian Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 501(c)(3) public charity, FAO is a regional community foundation serving the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio. In partnership with 14 geographic affiliate foundations and the regionwide African American Community Fund, FAO works to unleash the collective potential within Appalachian Ohio by encouraging and supporting philanthropy. FAO\u2019s geographic affiliate partners serve the Nelsonville area and Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry and Vinton counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
