New Weber Scholarship Supports Monroe County Students

Deadline to Apply is March 15, 2022

Woodsfield, OH – Graduating Monroe County students from the Switzerland ofOhio Local School District have an opportunity to obtain a scholarship in pursuit of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

The John G. and Suzanne Scott Weber Scholarship Fund was established with hope to lay a firm foundation for graduating students to succeed in life. It also is John and Suzanne’s hope that some of these accomplished students return to Monroe County and strive to serve, support and enhance the lives of the people in these communities. John, who was born in (Woodsfield) Monroe County, and Suzanne, who was born in (Columbus) Franklin County, both graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1965. John received a degree in pharmacy; Suzanne, in elementary education. John and Suzanne are proud to say they have lived most of their lives in Monroe County. Throughout this time, they have remained devoted servants of Christ in their community and in the Woodsfield First United Methodist Church. 

To be considered for this scholarship, the applicant must be a resident of Monroe County and a graduate from Switzerland of Ohio Local School District including Beallsville, Monroe Central, and River high schools, as well as the Swiss Hills Career Center. The applicant must be pursuing a course of study at an accredited two orfour-year post-secondary school or technical center in education or special education with an interest in agriculture or the sciences. Lastly, the applicant should demonstrate a strong work ethic and relevant work experience.

The John G. and Suzanne Scott Weber Scholarship is a fund of the Monroe County Community Foundation under the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), a regional community foundation serving the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

FAO’s general scholarship application form will be available February 15, 2022, from high school guidance offices and on FAO’s website at www.AppalachianOhio.org/scholarshipapplications.
