Monroe Family Health Center Receives Grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation

Grant Will Support Medication Disposal Program Launching in October

Sardis, OH – Educating young people about the consequences of drug use early in life makes a tremendous impact on their attitudes and actions towards drugs and medications later in life. Thanks to a $500 grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation (MCCF), the Monroe Family Health Center will implement a medication disposal program as well as activities and education on drug use by the Ohio Hills Health Service at the Monroe Family Health Center.

“Educating all Monroe County citizens on the risks of drug and medication abuse is an important activity considering the impact abuse has had on our county and region,” said Nikki Baker-Lude, a committee member with the Monroe County Community Foundation. “We are pleased to support the implementation of the medication disposal program at the Monroe Family Health Center. We look forward to making more grants like these in the future thanks to the generosity of people who hold Monroe County close to their hearts.”

The grant to the Monroe Family Health Center will support the Ohio Hills Health Service’s implementation of activities and education efforts at the Monroe Family Health Center beginning in October. Free educational services, assistance, and activities will be offered to everyone in the community, in addition to providing children with healthy eating and lifestyle activities. This will include the rollout of a new drug take-back program that will continue long after the grant.

“This grant award will allow us to spread the word about the drug take-back program we are launching in October. By partnering with other local institutions, we will be able to collect medications and to educate the community and students about the program’s importance and availability,” said Lana Phillips with the Ohio Hills Health Services. “By implementing this program, we will be able to educate not just students, but families and the public, about proper medication storage and use, as well as the dangers of misuse and abuse. This new community service was made possible by a grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation and we are grateful for their support.”
