Honoring Our 2019 Awardees

Kyle Zimmer, our 2019 Child of Appalachia Awardee, was born in Zanesville, Ohio and went on to co-found the nonprofit social enterprise, First Book. The organization’s research arm amplifies educator insights at the crossroads of poverty and education, and its transformative models address those deep disparities. First Book has distributed more than 200 million books and resources across the U.S., Canada and globally, and serves over 5 million children annually, including Children of Appalachia where First Book is partnering with FAO to deepen its impact.

Ken Taylor, our 2019 Chaddock Philanthropist of the Year Awardee, is the President of Ohio CAT. Ken and Ohio CAT have been unlocking doors of opportunity with FAO from the beginning, championing FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Network and launching our Pillars of Prosperity with a $1 million gift.
