Eyes Up Appalachia Fund — Team Bios

Christi Bartman has been involved in anti-human trafficking efforts in Ohio for over a decade. Working areas such as law, legislation and advocacy, she saw the need for even more dedicated effort. In order to do that, she left her position as Director of Public Administration, Public Policy and Legal Studies at American Public University System and now operates as a compassionate catalyst to push for better ways to address human trafficking and the vulnerabilities that underlie it – specifically poverty and lack of education. She is the founder of the Eyes Up Appalachia initiative as well as her own nonprofit and educational consulting firm. Christi holds an undergraduate degree in business from Appalachian State University, a Master of Public Administration from Troy State University (achieved while on active duty in the Air Force), a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law and a PhD in Policy History from Bowling Green State University. She is also a Certified Professional Coach. Carie Martin resides in Columbus, Ohio but grew up in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio. It was her childhood that gave her a deep appreciation of the natural beauty of the area and the community of people in southern Ohio who helped shape her into the woman she is today. Always aware of the income inequality of the area, and the societal ills that come with it, she has spent most of her career helping others. As a first-generation college graduate, she spent ten years of her career in higher education, helping other first-generation college students overcome the barriers to getting a college degree. Currently, she owns her own training and development company to help individuals and organizations thrive in a stressful world.

Carie holds an undergrad degree in business administration, a graduate degree in psychology, a postgrad certification in applied positive psychology and wellness coaching, and is a board-certified health and wellness coach. Eyes Up Appalachia is her way of giving back to a community that has given so much to her.
