The Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund was created by Statoil with the aim of making a positive contribution to the Monroe County community, where it operates.

 

 

Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund Grant Recipients

Grants have previously been awarded to the following organizations who applied for support to projects designed to increase quality of life, create access to opportunities, or identify and implement a solution for a community need or issue.

The iBELIEVE Foundation received a grant award to send 15 students from Monroe County’s River High School, part of the Switzerland of Ohio School District, to the iBELIEVE Student Leadership Summer Camp. Students will experience an immersive five-day, four-night summer camp and will continue to build on what they learned with year-round programming. Continued skill building, in combination with the valuable peer and mentor relationships, truly impacts each student, and in turn, their schools and communities.

The Ohio Valley Educational Service Center received a grant to support the Summer Teacher’s Academy, a professional development opportunity for high school reading and math teachers. The Summer Teacher’s Academy is part of the Student Readiness Project, a two-year improvement plan developed by a collaborative of 15 school districts and six institutions of higher education to reduce the number of high school students who need college remediation courses. Teachers will come together for two, three-day sessions, one Math- and one English-based, to develop teaching strategies to reduce the need for college remediation coursework. Expert facilitators will deliver techniques for content alignment and skill enhancement, as well as strategies for improving students’ soft skills and aspirations.

The American Red Cross received a $4,800 grant to do Home Fire Preparedness and Disaster Response and Prevention Education. The program will bring fire prevention education materials to residents along with resources to keep fire alarms up to date.\

The Higher Education and Learning Partnership (HELP) received $1,800 for their Annual Autumn College and Career Fair event for students and families in the Switzerland of Ohio School District. The event will feature representatives from colleges, careers, and the military who will provide attendees with information for students, parents, and adult learners.

West Virginia University’s Children’s Hospital received $2,500 for the NICView Cameras in the NICU program which will help to facilitate parent-newborn bonding. Each year, around 630 newborns spend time in the WVU Children’s Hospital NICU including patients and families from Monroe County. For these children and their families, physical separation makes bonding difficult, so by helping families to see their child, bonding can occur over long distances.

River Elementary School received $5,000 to develop a Science Lab which will enhance STEM learning for students.

Belmont College was awarded a $6,786 grant to construct a solar energy demonstration array in order to facilitate classroom learning about solar energy and oil field instrumentation. Belmont College was previously awarded a $4,990 grant for an instrumentation station to upgrade equipment to meet the demands of a skilled workforce in the region.

The Ohio Township Trustees were awarded an additional $2,500 to further the community walking trail project which received an initial Statoil grant in 2014.The Ohio Township Trustees previously received a $2,500 grant to assist with the walking trail project.

The Lewisville Fire Department has been granted $2,500 to support the purchase of a box trailer to be used as a Mobile Command Unit.  After a recent well fire, the department’s need for a mobile command unit became clear.

Sardis Volunteer Fire Department has been granted $2,500 towards the purchase of a side-by-side UTV to be used in fighting brush fires, accessing well sites, or pipeline areas in the event of an emergency situation and for other firefighting and emergency operations.

The Lewisville & Community Fire Department’s Outfit Side by Side project received a $2,050 grant for equipment specific to transport the side-by-side ATV to brush fire and emergency sites.

Funds were awarded to the iBELIEVE Foundation to assist 15 students at three schools attend a summer leadership camp. The $4,500 grant will also support guidance counselor education with the goal of increasing college access and developing a skilled workforce.

With a $3,000 grant, the Tri-County Help Center will develop its landscape revitalization program at Peg’s House, a domestic violence shelter.

Both the Woodsfield and River Elementary Schools received grants totaling $7,000 to purchase science lab equipment. The Science labs are designed to support Ohio’s STEM and Core Curriculum effort. Read more on our grant stories page.

The Clarington Fire Department will be able to make substantial improvements to their equipment with a $7,500 grant.

The Woodsfield Police Department and Woodsfield Fire Department each received grants totaling $7,000. The grants will support the purchase of new equipment for the departments including lightweight protective equipment to more safely extinguish wild land fires.

A Polaris Ranger UTV will be purchased by the Antioch Community Volunteer Fire Department with the help of a $7,500 grant. The department is the only rope rescue team in an area covering 6,000 people.

Operation Get Smarter by the Riverfront Library Association will use their $500 grant to provide books and eBooks for children participating in the library’s program.

The Monroe County Agriculture Society was awarded a $3,000 grant to assist in its 4-H Exhibit Barn project that will benefit over 600 4-H participants annually and the general community through other events.
